“My 20th
birthday fell within a few days of my arranged marriage
being settled. I was in Lucknow and my husband was posted in
Canada. On my birthday, I received this huge boxfrom him—all the
way from Canada. Inside were 20 cards and 20 gifts—each fora
birthday he had missed. The gifts too were according to the ages—
from soft toys to girlie bracelets to perfumes,and each card was
handwritten. It really was overwhelming.”
